Announcement of retirement: Former UAE captain Ahmed Raza from international cricket

After 17 years of playing, former UAE captain Ahmed Raza has announced his retirement from international cricket. He plans to join the coaching staff of the UAE after retiring, continuing his support of the country’s cricket. He is the UAE’s most successful T20 captain, having led the squad to victories in 18 of the team’s 27 T20 games.

It is with great joy that I’m declaring my retirement from all forms of cricket, Raza stated on social media after taking to Twitter. I think it is the perfect moment to leave the game that has earned me so much love and respect over the past 17 years, after giving it a lot of thought.

Raza paused to convey his gratitude.thanking his family, friends, and coworkers for supporting him during his journey.

One of my greatest honours has been representing and leading my nation in the magnificent game of cricket. I must express my gratitude to the Board, my coworkers, coaches, selectors, and, most importantly, my late father, who helped me realise my dream and gave me the means to do so. Moreover, my mother, my siblings, and my friends who stood by me during everything. Finally, and most importantly, to my wife Mehreen, who has served as my main source of support in recent years, Raza wrote.

He also expressed his sincere appreciation for the renowned Pakistani bowler Aqib Javed, who helped him develop as a professional player by sharpening his talents and paving the way for his achievement.Even though I had a lot of supporters during my career, I want to give a special shout-out to Aqib Javed, who made a significant contribution to my achievement and transformed me from a novice into a fully-fledged professional, Raza said.

Being able to take the UAE to the T20 World Cup is always a major accomplishment: Throughout a lengthy period of time, Raza Raza saw many highs and lows with the team, during which the group achieved noteworthy strides during the game. In the history of cricket in the UAE, Raza has participated in numerous historic events. It’s difficult to single out any one of his 17-year cricket career’s most memorable events, but Raza believes that guiding his country toThe T20 World Cup in Australia was a noteworthy accomplishment.

It’s difficult to single out a specific event over the course of 17 years, but guiding the UAE to the T20 World Cup will always rank highly among my accomplishments, Raza wrote in his retirement letter.

Over the course of his international career, Raza appeared in over 108 different games in various formats. He also led the club in 56 limited-over games between 2014 and 2022, winning 32 of them with a 66% victory rate. In the 2019 T20 World Cup Qualification event, he took charge of the UAE to start his second spell as captain. When the organisation was experiencing a corruption crisis that resulted into the seven cricketers’ suspension. He was succeeded as the UAE’s T20 International captain in August 2022 by CP Rizwan.
