All-rounder Axar Patel, who took over after India lost Ravindra Jadeja to Todd Murphy, produced a tenacious innings during the opening session of the third day. The youthful spinner, who claimed a 7-wicket haul, bowled out the comeback player to end the 88-run eighth-wicket stand. A fifty-run partnership was formed by Axar and Mohammad Shami for the ninth wicket. The left-hander was getting closer to scoring his first Test century but fell victim to Australia captain Pat Cummins at a score of 84.
