IND vs AUS: After Virat Kohli, KL Rahul takes spiritual journey ahead of 1st Test in Nagpur

India’s Test vice-captain, KL Rahul, recently visited the famous Sai Baba temple in Nagpur ahead of the Border-Gawkar Test series against Australia. This series is going to start from 9th February.

Talking about his recent performances, Rahul has not been among the run-scorers for the national team. He could only score 22, 23, 10 and 2 in the two Tests against Bangladesh. Moreover, the right-handed opener has only one half-century to his name in three Tests, after scoring an impressive 123 against the Proteas in December 2021.

Notably, the Karnataka batsman’s average has dipped below 35, reflecting his dismal form. After this, the upcoming series is crucial for his career path as many others might get a chance to replace him if he fails to get his mojo back. However, in a strong contention with Shubman Gill, the 30-year-old will be aiming to cement his place in the team by letting his bat do the talking.

Interestingly enough, there has also been a debate related to Pant’s injury and unavailability, which means Rahul’s wicket-keeping role could come into play. However, a BCCI official gave a statement regarding the same.

“KL has had several injuries in the last one year. Wicket-keeping in Tests is not ideal for him. Testing requires expert keepers. Bharat and Ishaan have two each in the team. It is up to the team management to decide who to pick,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

Virat Kohli’s spiritual journey before playing the series

After the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, Team India’s star batsman Virat Kohli has been away from action for a while. In November 2022, he preferred to explore his spiritual side by visiting the famous Kanchidham in Nainital to seek the blessings of Neem Karoli Baba.

Now, it will be interesting to see how this series pans out for KL Rahul and what will be his approach against the Aussies when he takes the field in Nagpur.
