Half-centuries from Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell and a solid spin bowling performance of 2/11 from skipper Mitchell Santner helped New Zealand win the first T20I against India at the JSCA International Stadium complex in Ranchi. The second match will be held on January 29 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Speaking of the opening T20I, Conway again showed his class and consistency as he smashed a 35-ball 52, while Mitchell scored an unbeaten 59 in just 30 balls, helping the Kiwis post 176 in 20 overs. /6 reached. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh looted 51 runs for just one wicket in a spell of four overs.
In reply, skipper Santner bowled a match-winning spell which included crucial sixes from the in-form Shubman Gill and Deepak Hooda. Hardik Pandya and his team would look to keep the series alive by winning the second game in the Uttar Pradesh capital.
