Know India vs Australia Sydney Test Updates :
Washington Sundar had to walk back from the match following a controversial DRS decision in the third session of the first day of the fifth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney Test.
The final Test between India and Australia got off to a disappointing start for the visiting team who opted to bat on a greenish pitch. India were struggling at 120/6 by the time Washington Sundar came to the crease. The left-handed batsman batted on a hat-trick ball from Scott Boland.
Meanwhile, Washington Sundar attempted to pull against a short delivery from Pat Cummins in the 66th over but failed to connect. Though many felt the batsman had missed the ball, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey immediately appealed for a caught as he felt the ball hit his glove. The on-field umpire took no action before the decision was challenged by Australia.
The DRS focused on the snickometer which showed a slight bounce as the ball passed through Sundar’s gloves. However, there was murmuring and noise on the snicko throughout which made it difficult to determine whether the spike was due to the ball contacting the glove or not. Despite the absence of any visible deflection or conclusive evidence that the ball had come in contact with the bat or the glove, the third umpire overturned the on-field decision.
Washington Sundar was unhappy with the dismissal. The spectators present in the stadium also expressed their displeasure by hooting loudly. And after Sundar’s dismissal, India’s score became 148/8 in which the team’s last recognized batsman was out.
From KL Rahul’s wicket in Perth to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal in Melbourne and even Steven Smith’s confident appeal at slip against Virat Kohli in Sydney, DRS decisions had created a ruckus throughout the series.
India’s top scorer in this match was Rishabh Pant who has scored 40 runs so far. The left-handed batsman looked in good form to play a big innings but while trying to play a pull shot on a short delivery from Scott Boland, the ball hit the toe of the bat and was caught by captain Pat Cummins at mid-on.
