Lahore Qalandars' PSL 2023 "Distasteful" and "Tea is Lovely" Tweet Sets People Off

Lahore Qalandars, the current Pakistan Super League winners, sparked controversy with a divisive tweet criticising Indian fighter pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. Lahore Qalandars, who have more than a million followers, created a social media sensation when they posted a picture of all-rounder Mohammad Hussain Talat enjoying tea along with the remark, “Je tu “Tea is Beautiful” hogya.”

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s MiG-21 strayed into Pakistan in 2019 and was ultimately shot down there after losing contact with the Indian Airforce. Abhinandan was eventually caught by Pakistani civilians and imprisoned by their military despite ejecting successfully.

Afterwards, Pakistani authorities published a video in which Abhinandan praised their team for providing him with skilled care and medical attention.

“Let it be known that I won’t change my mind, not even when I go back to my country. The Pakistani Army officers have taken fantastic care of me, from the captain who rescued me from the troops and the mob to the commanders of the unit I was sent to. I would expect my troops to act in a same manner. According to the footage of the fighter jet pilot, “And the Pakistan Army definitely makes an impression on me.

When a Pakistani officer later asked Abhinandan about the tea, he said, “The tea is fantastic, thank you.

“Happy Incredible Tea Day to everyone, I’d like to say. a nice reminder that the discussion table also serves wonderful tea. You may choose to pay with an aeroplane and a pilot or just have a great discussion and some complimentary tea, he had tweeted.

But, the latest tweet from PSL superpower Lahore Qalandars is anticipated to exacerbate already tense ties with the Indian Cricket Federation. The PSL is broadcast on Sony Live in India, thus this tweet could affect how it is shown there.

Indians drew attention to the fact that Ahsan Iqbal, the minister of planning for Pakistan, had just most recently urged Pakistanis to drink less tea in response to a tweet from the Lahore Qalandars franchise.
