He and I had never played a four-day match before. Because of my performance, I got selected for the Indian team. After that, they took another trip, during which he simply destroyed the ODI competition. They rose to their feet and declared that he was unique. He is a special player, they claimed. Naturally, I joined the Indian team, but by that point, MS Dhoni was the clear choice due to the Dhoni frenzy. So he took my position in all forms, and he performed a great job. It all comes down to seizing opportunities in the end. You must be willing to seize possibilities.

“I was seeking superiority. I was always striving to be the world’s finest cricket player. That wasn’t my lookout, whether Dhoni was present or absent. He was prospering in his own right. I was aware of his integration into the team. He started off without a mistake. He received a hundred in an ODI after they sent him an order. He later played in a Test match and scored 85. He maintained brilliantly. More importantly, he suddenly developed a brand. He had pursuers pursuing him. He was a very well-liked athlete from the beginning. Even though I was usually the understudy, I was always looking for opportunities and going above and beyond.”

Karthik, who now plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, is getting ready for the competition. Dhoni is getting ready for the IPL with the Chennai Super Kings as well.
