PSL 2023: Colin Munro thinks Azam Khan ought to play for Pakistan

KARACHI: Veteran New Zealand batter Colin Munro lauded Azam Khan, a teammate with Islamabad United, and said he was perplexed as to why Khan wasn’t selected for the Pakistan team.

After Islamabad United (IU) easily defeated the Karachi Kings, Munro praised Azam for his innings of 44 runs off 28 balls during a press conference.

The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter hit the ball over the boundary six times during his innings before being caught by Haider Ali off Musa Khan.

When asked about Azam’s performance, Munro, who also made 58 off 28 balls, expressed his surprise that Azam wasn’t selected for the Pakistan team.

The New Zealander praised Azam’s batting by calling it “amazing.”

“I don’t understand why he isn’t playing for Pakistan. Just now, I was conversing with a few other foreign boys. Although his weight has received a lot of attention, he continued, “My goodness, if he’s one of the finest batters in the country, why not get him in there?

Azam, 24, has participated in three T20Is for Pakistan, but experts on cricket and former players have long questioned his weight and level of fitness.

“I thought the way we went out and tried to be aggressive and put the pressure on the bowlers was great,” Munro stated in reference to the game.”

The wicket, according to Munro, was a little bit two-paced “There were some grassy parts and some bay spots, as you could see.

The ball had a slightly varying behaviour depending on where it landed. So, we simply walked out and tried to be optimistic, and fortunately it went away.

To be very honest, I thought 175 was a par score, the New Zealand cricketer stated

He also appreciated the calibre of cricket, particularly the PSL’s quick bowlers. He described some of the fast bowlers in the competition as “frightening.”

“Everyone who comes here admits that confronting a few of these boys, especially some of the men you don’t really know, is daunting for the fast bowlers.”

Munro praised Ihsanullah, a teenage pacer for Multan Sultans who scored a fifer against Quetta, saying that he bowled “very fast.”

Said he, “It’s a challenging tournament to play because of the variety of playing circumstances, but it’s undoubtedly among the best ones now taking place. The level of cricket is amazing, in my opinion.
