Shadab Khan said in PSL 2023, “Babar Azam is a bigger diamond than Kohinoor

Pakistan’s leg spinner Shadab Khan has spoken his strong sentiments on Banar Azam, the team’s skipper across all formats. Babar Azam and Shdab Khan are close friends on the national cricket team, and Khan’s comments about Babar have brought attention to their relationship.

Babar Azam has regularly scored runs for Pakistan in all formats over the past several years. Under his direction, Pakistan has fared admirably at ICC competitions, reaching the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup and the semifinals of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Babar had an outstanding year in 022, guiding the side to the T20 World Championship final and taking home the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year and Men’s Cricketer of the Year Awards.

In an interview with a local TV station, Shadab Khan emphasised the importance of Babar Azam to the national team. He said that Kohinnor is a smaller diamond than Babar and that the country undervalues Babar.

“I think it’s unjust to use a diamond of this quality. It is a blessing that Pakistan has such a large diamond. Babar is a much smarter than Kohinoor. As a country, we are exerting pressure on Babar because we do not recognise his true importance. At the end of the day, he is a person. Shadab asked us to accord him the same respect as everyone else.

The 24-year-old leg spinner recognised Babar’s leadership skills. Pakistan’s home losses against Australia, England, and New Zealand in the WTC 2023 brought to harsh criticism for the team leadership. Shadab has however encouraged Babar to turn things around in the future.
