Shubman Gill, Chamari Athapaththu: Chosen ICC Player of the Month for September

India’s young batsman Shubman Gill won the ICC Men’s Player of the Year award for September after scoring runs in his country’s trophy-winning Asia Cup campaign and ODI series against Australia. While Sri Lankan Chamari Athapaththu took the ICC Women’s Player of the Month crown last month after her T20 batting and bowling gave the team its first series win on English soil.

Both players were crowned after votes cast by fans registered on ICC-cricket.com and a panel of ICC Hall of Famers, former international players and media representatives.

ICC Men’s Player of the Month Shubman Gill has enjoyed great form in 2023. Due to which his ICC Men’s ODI batting ranking jumped. And now he is within touching distance of August Player of the Month winner Babar Azam.

After the conclusion of the Asia Cup, Gill again shone in the series against Australia. Shubman Gill scored 74 in Mohali and 104 in Indore.

Commenting on winning the award, Shubman Gill said, “I am happy to win the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of September. It is a great privilege to represent India at the international level and contribute to the welfare of the team. This award will inspire me to make the country proud.

I was successful in contributing to that team. Which got the good fortune of winning the Asia Cup 2023 and then got the good fortune of winning the ODI series against Australia in September. On this occasion, I thank all my teammates, family and coaches.

Chamari Athapaththu has been performing consistently for Sri Lanka on the world stage for many years. But his performance touched new heights in September. Due to which he got the Player of the Month award.

The Sri Lanka captain led from the front to secure his team’s first series win in any format on English soil in September. And after losing the first match, won 2-1.

Athapaththu: “I am extremely happy to be chosen as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month. I agree. That this belief is not only mine. Rather it belongs to the entire team. Because without them I would not have been able to perform.
