Smriti Mandhana’s WPL salary is more than Babar Azam’s PSL salary

The first-ever Women’s Premier League auction took held in Mumbai on February 13, 2023, making it a historic day for the sport of cricket. For the historic occasion, 409 individuals had been chosen for the shortlist, and the first tournament is scheduled to start on March 4. Smriti Mandhana, India’s vice-captain, was the first name to be put up for bid. She signed a massive contract of INR 3.4 crore with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

RCB and Mumbai Indians engaged in a bidding war early on in the auction, going all-out to secure the top player for their teams. Mandhana eventually signed with the Bangalore-based team, making her the most expensive player in the WPL 2023.

Mandhana’s WPL salary of INR 3.4 crore is interesting.is significantly higher than Babar Azam’s Pakistan Super League wage. The prodigious Pakistani hitter, who will play for the Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL in 2023, will make INR 1.38 crore in salary, a significant fraction of what the Indian opening sensation will make at the first WPL.

At the WPL 2023 auction, RCB bid lavishly.
The successful Indian opener will be one of the team’s captaincy choices now that RCB has hired Smriti Mandhana. In the absence of all-format skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, she has guided the Indian team to triumphs on numerous occasions. She wore the captain’s hat and guided India to victories in a few games during the October 2022 Asia Cup.

RCBplayed the Monday WPL auction very carefully. In the first round, they spent almost half of their INR 12 crore budget on Mandhana, Australia’s top all-rounder Ellyse Perry, and New Zealand captain Sophie Devine. Richa Ghosh, India’s U19 champion and star wicketkeeper-batter, and Renuka Singh Thakur, India’s speed wonder, were then purchased for significant sums to boost their team.

Then, for the majority of the rounds of the auction, RCB remained still before finally responding during the expedited auction. They hired English captain Heather Knight, South African captain Dane van Niekerk, and Australian pace ace Megan Schutt to round out their team.
