Islamabad On February 16, United’s Pakistan Super League 2023 (PSL) season got off to a strong start with a victory over Karachi Kings in the competition’s fourth match. Haider Ali led the way for Karachi Kings, scoring 59 off 45 while batting first, leading them to a difficult total of 173/7. Early in their chase, United had trouble, but Colin Munro’s 58 off 28 allowed them to pull out a significant victory.
At the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi, Shadab Khan, who was playing cricket again after a lengthy absence, won the toss and decided to field first. James Vince was dismissed for just four runs in the first over of the game by seasoned left-arm pacer Rumman Raees, giving United a quick start.
To counter this, Haider and Sharjeel Khan put up an important 77-run partnership for the second wicket. With the wicket of Sharjeel in the eleventh over, English pacer Tom Curran ended the partnership, and the United bowlers maintained control of the innings for the remainder of it.
While Haider scored fifty, he couldn’t hold onto the middle till the conclusion. Before to being bowled out by Faheem Ashraf’s delivery in the 15th over, he had the highest score of 59 off 45. Despite Shoaib Malik and Irfan Khan’s best efforts, United’s bowlers were able to hold Kings to 173/7 in 20 overs. On his first outing back in competitive cricket, Shadab was unable to pick up any wickets, while Raees, Curran, and Mohammad Wasim each claimed two.
United rapidly dropped both of their opening goals while chasing the difficult target. In the second over of the inning, Muhammad Amir eliminated Hassan Nawaz, and Muhammad Musa eliminated the dangerous Paul Stirling for just four runs on his own. Yet the seasoned team of Rassie van der Dussen and Colin Munro achieved a game-changing 59-run third-wicket stand.
Prior to being clean bowled by Imad Wasim’s superb delivery in the 10th over, Rassie had just hit an important 31 from 25. Nonetheless, Munro continued to add points to the scoreboard with a spectacular fifty, and he helped his team come closer to their goal by forming yet another vital partnership with Azam Khan.
Azam Khan was caught out in the following over after a superb innings of 44 off 28 balls, while Munro was run out by James Fuller while batting on 58 runs off just 28 balls in the 15th over. Due to the strength of their batting lineup, United had a successful pursuit despite this. Tom Curran hit a six to drive in the go-ahead runs, giving United a four-wicket victory with 10 balls remaining.
