Venkatesh Prasad Criticizes KL Rahul’s “Overseas Test Record” with Statistics

It is impossible to have a conversation on KL Rahul on social media without also bringing up Venkatesh Prasad. The former Indian bowler, who questioned Rahul’s status in the team despite repeated failures, has undoubtedly been Rahul’s most ardent critic in recent years. After constantly questioning the support Rahul continues to receive from the Indian team management, Prasad has now denounced the notion that the opening batter only plays in international Tests.

Prasad questioned people who supported India’s tenacity with Rahul due to a strong “overseas Test record” in a series of tweets. However, the retired bowler emphasised that the hitter from Karnataka only has a 30 foreign Test average across 56 innings.

“KL Rahul is regarded as having a remarkable record in Test matches across the globe. Yet the data suggests different. His test average abroad is 30 over 56 innings. He had six foreign centuries, but after each one, he had a run of poor performances, which is why his average is only 30. Let’s examine a few more, “Rahul’s track record abroad was highlighted in a graphic Prasa tweeted.

The former India pacer also provided the statistics of other openers, including Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, and Ajinkya Rahane, implying that their numbers continue to be superior to Rahul’s.

“Among recent openers, Shikhar Dhawan has the highest international average. About 40 on average with 5 100s. Although though he hasn’t been consistent in Test cricket, he has had outstanding centuries in Sri Lanka and New Zealand, along with a considerably superior home record.

“Mayank Agarwal had trouble in away tests after a stellar start in Australia.

Nonetheless, he has by far the best record at home. Over 70 on average over 13 innings, two double 100s, and a 150 on a Wankhede pitch when everyone else struggled. Excellent against spin and had a successful domestic campaign.

Shubhman Gill, whose international career has only lasted 14 innings, averages 37, with his 91 at the Gabba rated as one of the best international fourth innings. He has been in outstanding form.

Even though he was out of form and unreliable before being benched, Ajinkya Rahane had one of the finest international Test records, averaging over 40 abroad in 50 test matches.

Rahul, in Prasad’s opinion, has the best chance of regaining his form in the Indore Test, as well. In the event that he doesn’t, he ought to go play county cricket.

But, Indore would be his best opportunity to rediscover his form and silence people like me because KL would be kept around for the following two test matches. Others must participate in county cricket, do well, and rejoin the Test team “Finally, he said.

Yet, with KL being kept around for the next two test matches, Indore would be his greatest chance to regain his form and silence people like myself. Else must participate in county cricket, perform well, and rejoin the Test team.

Rahul no longer holds the title of “vice-captain,” but he has been kept in the Indian squad for the third and fourth Tests against Australia.
