WPL 2023: List of players of prestigious auction

On Monday, February 13, in Mumbai, the eagerly awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 auction began. Prior to the WPL’s debut season, all five of the franchises assembled their teams through the auction.

Teams have done a decent job of bolstering their squads for the upcoming season after witnessing the glamour and glamour of the event replete with drama and action off the field. Franchises started to compete for specific players from the moment the auctioneer said go, which repeatedly led to bidding wars.

Up to 409 athletes were up for grabs in the bidding arena, of which 246 Indians participated in the auction and 163 players were from the outside countries, which includedeight players from the affiliate nations were featured. Franchises spent a total of INR 59.5 crore at the auction to buy the 87 players that were up for sale.

Smriti Mandhana, the most expensive selection in the auction with a price tag of INR 3.40 crore, was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore to kick off the event. Ashleigh Gardner and Natalie Sciver, both all-rounders from Australia, were signed by Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians for a whopping INR 3.20 crore, making them the joint second most expensive signings ever.

Shafali Verma, the captain of the India U19 World Cup winning team, will play for the Delhi Capitals after being acquired for INR 2.00 crore, making her the second most expensive player in their squad behind Jemimah Rodrigues.Despite their significant expertise and great exploits, many high-profile cricketers failed to attract much interest, while a select few players quickly attracted notice and ignited a bidding war. Famous players like Alana King, Suzie Bates, and Kim Garth, among others, failed to pique the interest of the franchisees.

Fans have undoubtedly enjoyed themselves immensely thanks to what happened on Monday in the auction arena. It would be intriguing to see how events play out in the lucrative T20 competition with players from all over the world working together for a shared goal.
