In all forms of Indian cricket, Akshar Patel is among the underperformers. Maybe because he has a terrible tendency of getting hurt right before important events. But he’s come to accept it as a necessary component of his path.
“If you look at my World Cup record or any major series, I’m usually sidelined by an injury that occurs at the wrong time. With a smile, Akshar continues, “I’m not going to focus on these things right now.
The all-rounder for the Delhi Capitals appears to have healed from the quadriceps injury he sustained during the Asia Cup in September, which led to his exclusion from the Indian squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
It’s not surprising that he’s not thinking too far ahead, as the next World Cup will be held in the shortest format.
“Having to deal with sudden injuries is difficult, but since it has been happening for the past two or three years, I’ve grown used to it. I’m content where I am and in my universe,” he declares.
“I’m not putting pressure on myself for World Cup preparations, instead, I’m focusing on how I can adapt my performance in the present.”

Even with batsmen’s rules and favourable conditions, Akshar has managed to restrain batsmen. He is the only bowler, aside from Jasprit Bumrah, to have bowled at least ten overs in this IPL and given up fewer than seven runs per over.
It depends on your frame of mind when you know that both bats will swing strongly at you. “You’ll miss your mark and they’ll capitalise if you’re worried about getting hit,” advises Akshar.
“I’m always considering carrying out my strategy. I’m not concerned about that, though, if after planning everything out it still works flawlessly.”
