DC vs GT: Changes in points table after Delhi’s second consecutive win in Gujarat

DC defeated GT by four runs in the 40th IPL 2024 match. Delhi lost the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 224 runs in 20 overs at a cost of four wickets. Off 43 balls, captain Rishabh Pant amassed an undefeated 88 runs, and Akshar Patel added 66 runs. Gujarat’s side could only muster 220 runs for eight wickets in their twenty overs in reply. Sai Sudarshan scored 65 runs off 39 balls, and David Miller scored 55 runs off 23 balls. Gujarat has now lost to Delhi twice in a row.

Delhi’s team moved up to seventh place in the standings with eight points after this victory. Thus far, they have emerged victorious from nine games. Gujarat’s team dropped from seventh to eighth position in the meantime. They have eight points after losing five of their last nine games. In terms of net run rate, Gujarat’s squad is behind Delhi’s. Delhi’s next game is scheduled for April 27 in Delhi against the Mumbai Indians. On April 28, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s team will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore.

For Delhi, Rishabh Pant’s flawless 88 runs off 43 balls proved to be the game-winning performance. Otherwise, Rashid Khan (21*) had threatened to spoil Gujarat’s aspirations following David Miller’s 55. Gujarat needed to score 19 runs in the last over to win. Rashid struck two fours and a six in the final over that Mukesh Kumar bowled. Delhi won the match by a margin of four runs as Rashid was unable to give Gujarat the five runs they required on the final ball.

Shubman Gill (6) was dismissed by Nortje’s bowling on the second ball of the second over while behind 225 runs. Then Sai Sudarshan immediately hit a six. Gujarat needed 78 runs in 30 balls after reaching 147 runs for five wickets in 15 overs, but Kuldeep’s catch of Tevatia (4) by Pant dealt them their sixth blow. David Miller struck three sixes and fours in the 17th over of the Notre Dame innings, good for 24 runs and a half-century in 21 balls, bringing the total to 49 runs in 18 balls. In the subsequent over, though, Miller was out to Mukesh’s delivery. With 23 balls, he scored 55 runs. Sai Kishore (13) smashed Rashid for two consecutive sixes in the 19th over, but the ball after that saw him bowled.

Shubman Gill, in his 100th IPL match, won the toss and asked Delhi to bat. In the first three overs, Prithvi Shaw and Australian Jack Fraser MacGregor struck two fours and three sixes to raise the total to 34. Before Sandeep Warrior sent Fraser and Shaw back to the pavilion in just one over, everything was going great for Delhi. Shaw scored 11 runs off seven balls with two fours, and Fraser scored 23 runs off 14 balls. Noor Ahmad made a fantastic catch with Shaw. Upon reviewing multiple replays, the third umpire excluded him. It was hard to tell if the ball had made contact with the earth, though. Delhi’s second blow in the powerplay came when Warrior removed Shai Hope (5) in the sixth over.

During the powerplay, Delhi amassed 44 runs for three wickets. Akshar-Pant assumed command.
Captain Rishabh Pant, in partnership with Akshar Patel, attempted to turn around Delhi’s innings. Delhi’s total reached 80 runs in 10 overs thanks to both. Akshar also struck Rashid with a stunning six at this period. Pant had two Valentine’s Day gifts as well. In the eleventh over, Pant struck his first six off Nair’s delivery.
